Image Properties

Use the Image Mode to pin images to the panorama.

Use the Image mode in the Viewer to pin an image to the panorama. The image distorts with the panorama as if it were part of the scene. You can also let the image pop out of its place, undistorted, when it’s clicked, which works well for gallery tours.

Switch to Master Node – This button appears only when the selected image comes from the tour’s master node while another node is open in the Viewer. Click it to switch to the master node.

ID – Each image gets a unique ID, starting with Element01. Use the ID as the target of an action in the Skin Editor.

File – The image file. To add or replace it, do one of the following:

  • Click the folder button, then choose the image file.
  • Drag the file onto the File field.
  • Drag the file into the Viewer.

Supported image file types include JPEG, JPEG XL, PNG, WebP, and GIF. Right-click the file name to edit it or to show the file in Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS).

Generate alternative files – Select to let Pano2VR create smaller copies of the image on export, so that devices with small screens load less data. Pano2VR halves the image as often as needed until its longer side is 1024 pixels or less, and the player picks the copy that suits the screen. This option is selected for new images and applies when the image is copied to the output.

Alternative File(s) – Your own alternative versions of the image, in JPEG or PNG format, for example at lower resolutions. These fields appear when Generate alternative files is deselected. Add up to three alternative files; a new field appears as soon as the previous one is filled.

Copy files to output – Select to copy the image and its alternative files into the output folder. Deselect it to reference the files at their original location, for example on a web server.

Size – The image’s dimensions in pixels (width by height). They are read from the image file, and it’s best to leave them unchanged. To make the image smaller or larger in the panorama, drag its handles in the Viewer instead.

Image Mask File – A PNG or SVG mask that blends the edges of the image into the panorama. Click the gear button to generate a feathered mask: enter a Feather Radius in pixels (1 to 999), and Pano2VR saves the mask as a PNG file next to the image.

Click Mode – What happens when a viewer clicks the image:

  • None – Nothing happens.
  • Pop Out Original – The image moves out of the panorama toward the viewer and is shown undistorted at its original size, even if that is larger than the player window. Click the image again to return it to its place.
  • Pop Out Fit – The same, but the image is scaled to fit the player window.

Select Hide when pinned next to the menu to keep the image invisible in the panorama, so it only appears while it is popped out. This option is available for the two pop-out click modes. Use it together with the Activate Media action in the skin, which pops the image out when a viewer clicks a button, for example.

Scaling – How much of the player window a popped-out image fills, from 10% to 100%. The default is 100%. Available when Click Mode is set to Pop Out Fit.

Hand Cursor – Select Enable to show a hand cursor when the pointer is over the image in the output.

Position – Select Lock to keep the image from being moved by accident. While it is locked, the rotation, pan, tilt, FoV, and vertical stretch fields are unavailable.

  • X Rotation – The rotation around the X axis, from -180° to 180°. Matches the top arrow in the preview image.
  • Y Rotation – The rotation around the Y axis, from -180° to 180°. Matches the left arrow in the preview image.
  • Z Rotation – The rotation around the Z axis, from -180° to 180°. Matches the center arrow in the preview image.
  • Pan – The horizontal position in degrees.
  • Tilt – The vertical position in degrees.
  • FoV – The horizontal field of view the image covers, from 1° to 150°. A smaller angle makes the image smaller.
  • Vertical Stretch – Stretches the image vertically, from 50% to 200%, to fit it exactly into a space like a picture frame. Values other than 100% distort the image. Select Lock next to the field to keep the stretch fixed while you drag the image’s corners in the Viewer.
