Manipulate 3D Model

Move, rotate, and scale a whole 3D model in the Viewer with the 3D Widget and the 3D Controller.

Manipulate 3D Model mode (M) lets you place a whole 3D model in the tour directly in the Viewer. Select a model node in the Tour Browser, choose the mode in the Viewer Modes, and drag the handles of the 3D Widget that appears on the model. What you change here is the model’s Position, Rotation, and Scale in the 3D Model node properties, where you can also type exact values.

The mode is not available while Lock 3D Model is selected. Pano2VR tells you the model is locked and returns to Select mode. Unlock the model in its properties first, and lock it again once it is in place, so that you do not move it by accident.

★ Tip  Place the model before you align camera points to it. Moving a model later moves it away from the camera points that were aligned to it.

3D Widget

The 3D Widget shows handles for the current transform mode. The red, green, and blue handles work along the X, Y, and Z axes, and the handle under the mouse turns yellow.

  • Move – Drag an arrow to move along one axis, a square to move along two axes at once, or the center to move freely.
  • Rotate – Drag a ring to rotate around one axis.
  • Scale – Drag any handle to make the model larger or smaller. The model has a single scale, so it always grows or shrinks evenly in all directions.

The same widget moves hotspots, camera points, and control points in the other viewer modes. For a walk-through, see Move and Adjust a 3D Model.

3D Controller

The 3D Controller is the row of buttons at the bottom of the Viewer when a 3D model is shown. Its buttons switch the transform mode of the 3D Widget and are available in the viewer modes that move something: Manipulate 3D Model, Point Hotspots, Camera Points, and Control Points. In Select mode they are dimmed.

Select (0) – Select elements without showing the 3D Widget. Dimmed in Manipulate 3D Model mode.

Move (1) – Show the move handles.

Rotate (2) – Show the rotation rings.

Scale (3) – Show the scale handles. Dimmed in Camera Points and Control Points mode.

Link Mode (4) – (Camera Points mode) Click one camera point and then another to connect them. See Transitions with Motion Paths.

Capture Target Camera – (Camera Points mode) Add a Target Camera at the Viewer’s current view.

Toggle World/Local Space (5) – Switch the 3D Widget between the scene’s axes (world space) and the selected object’s own axes (local space). Local space is handy for fine adjustments along a rotated object, for example moving a hotspot along a slanted wall.

Toggle Rotation Snapping (6) – Turn snapping on or off. While it is on, rotations move in 45° steps.

Move, Rotate, and Scale are dimmed while a locked camera point is selected.

All of these commands are also in the Edit > 3D Model menu, together with Capture Preview Image and the camera modes. The number keys are the default shortcuts; you can change them in Keyboard Shortcuts.
