waypoint

A user-defined intermediate point used to shape motion paths between camera points in a 3D model.

A waypoint is an intermediate marker placed on a motion path between Camera Points. Waypoints let you define curved or multi-segment transitions so the camera follows a specific route through the 3D model rather than moving in a straight line.

How to Use Waypoints

  • Add: In Camera Points mode, double-click anywhere in the model, or double-click the connection between two camera points to split it with a waypoint.
  • Edit: Select a waypoint and use the 3D Widget to move it in 3D space.
  • Remove: Select a waypoint and press Delete or Backspace, or remove it from the List View.

A waypoint can also turn the camera toward the direction of travel, and it can decide whether a transition through it shows the model’s own texture or the panoramas. See Waypoint in the Camera Points properties.

Tips

  • Use waypoints to avoid geometry or to highlight a point of interest along the transition.
  • Keep waypoint counts reasonable. A route with more than 10 steps between camera points is not followed: the camera flies straight to the target instead.
