Texture Size
The pixel dimensions of an image used as a material on a 3D model. It affects quality, memory, and performance.
The texture size is the resolution (width and height) of an image mapped onto a 3D model, measured in pixels. Larger textures, such as 2048×2048 pixels, give sharper, more detailed surfaces. Smaller ones, such as 512×512 pixels, look blurrier but load faster and need less memory.
Why It Matters
Larger textures add visual detail but use more graphics memory, take longer to load, and can slow down the tour, especially on phones and tablets.
Typical Values
- 4096 (4K) – Detailed models on desktop computers.
- 2048 (2K) – A balance between quality and performance.
- 1024 (1K) and 512 – Phones and tablets, or objects that are only seen from far away.
Best Practices
- Use the smallest texture size that keeps the detail you need.
- Let Pano2VR create optimized desktop and mobile versions of a 3D mesh when you generate the output, with separate limits under Desktop Max. Texture and Mobile Max. Texture in the optimization options.
- Choose a compressed texture format, such as WebP or KTX2, to reduce the file size.
