Generating Alternative Files
Not every browser plays every media file. Alternative files give the player a second choice, and the built-in converter creates them for sounds and videos.
Not every browser and device plays every audio or video format, and a small phone doesn’t need a large image. Wherever Pano2VR lets you add alternative files, the player looks at all of them and uses the best one the browser supports, so the order of the files doesn’t matter.
You can add up to three alternative files to:
- pinned sounds, videos, and images
- video hotspots, that is, point hotspots with a Video File source
- video elements in the skin
- video panoramas and background sounds
For pinned images, you usually don’t need to add anything yourself: with Generate alternative files selected, Pano2VR creates smaller copies of the image on export.
For sounds and videos, click the gear button next to an alternative file field to convert the main file with Pano2VR’s built-in media converter. The formats shown in the conversion dialog are the ones the current computer can write; no external converter needs to be installed.
