Move and Adjust a 3D Model
Learn how to move, rotate, and adjust a 3D model in a virtual tour to set its position and orientation.
Move and Adjust the Model
There are several tools available for moving and adjusting a model in Pano2VR.
When a model is selected and Manipulate 3D Model is active, the 3D Controller and the 3D Transform Tool appear in the Viewer. Drag the Transform Tool’s handles to manipulate the model; the active handle turns yellow.
Move
Select Move from the 3D Controller. Drag the 3D Transform Tool handles to move the model:
- Red = Move along the X axis
- Green = Move along the Y axis
- Blue = Move along the Z axis
Move the entire model by dragging the center of the Transform Tool (all handles turn yellow). Move two axes at once by dragging one of the squares between the axis lines.
Rotate
Select Rotate from the 3D Controller. The Transform Tool switches to spherical handles:
- Red = Rotate around the X axis (tilt up/down)
- Green = Rotate around the Y axis (pan/turn left–right)
- Blue = Rotate around the Z axis (roll clockwise/counter‑clockwise)
- Yellow (center) = Rotate the entire model around its center
Scale
Select Scale from the 3D Controller. The Transform Tool switches to block handles:
- Red = Scale along the X axis
- Green = Scale along the Y axis
- Blue = Scale along the Z axis
- Yellow (center) = Uniform scale from the center (scale in all directions)
World vs Local Space
Choose the transform coordinate space:
-
Local Space — The Transform Tool is aligned to the hotspot’s or camera’s orientation. Use Local Space for fine adjustments relative to the object the hotspot is pinned to (for example, placing a hotspot on a door so movements follow the door’s orientation).
-
World Space — The Transform Tool is aligned to the scene’s global axes and moves along fixed axes. Use World Space for general alignment when you want the transform tool to keep a constant orientation.
Moving in the Model
You can navigate the model with the mouse and the keyboard.
Keyboard navigation (default):
- W = Forward
- S = Back
- A = Left
- D = Right
- Q = Up
- E = Down
- Left/Right Arrow = Spin left / spin right
- Up/Down Arrow = Move forward / move back
Camera modes control how you move around and within the model. See Viewer Settings → Camera Modes.
Depending on which camera mode you are in, the pivot point changes:
- Orbit and Fly Over rotate around a pivot point.
- Fly and Walk use the camera as the pivot.
Orbit
Move around the model from the outside. Rotate the view, zoom, and inspect the model.
Use the keyboard or mouse to move. Adjust the pivot point with the middle mouse button or hold Option/Alt while moving.
Fly
Move freely through 3D space as in first-person flight. The camera is the pivot point.
Use the keyboard or mouse to move. Hold Option/Alt (or use the middle mouse button) to move up and down.
Fly Over (Helicopter)
Glide smoothly around and above the model and around the pivot point.
Use the keyboard or mouse to move. Hold Option/Alt (or use the middle mouse button) to tilt the view up or down.
Walk
Move at ground level within the model’s boundaries, as if walking through the scene.
Best practice for entering Walk mode:
- Use Fly Over (Helicopter) to position the pivot point (cyan dot in the viewer) near the floor or the model if you are coming from an outside pivot-based mode (Orbit or Fly Over). Alternatively, hold Option/Alt (or use the middle mouse button) while in Orbit to reposition the pivot point.
- Enable collision detection (set collisions to the closed/gated mode) to avoid accidentally moving through geometry.
- Switch to Walk camera mode.
Use the keyboard or mouse to move around.
