Has any thought been given to having the option of storing the tiles in a webP format? With Apple adding webP support for Safari, the latest versions of the major browsers support the format. It allows for high compression with less or no loose.
Just wondering.

A quite old topic, but is there any update on using WebP?
I also noticed it's quite good format to animate opening doors and such trough patches. I managed to reduce my patches by around 90% from PNG to WEBP without much visible loss and keeping transparency. (although, small bug, "webp" isn't in the default selectable image file type list when adding/changing the patches, need to change the drop down to show "all' files)
For the actual panorama backgrounds, i suppose it could also be good.
Best,
David

I would love WebP for gigapixel panoramas as well! 150 000 fileas over 16 gigabytes could benefit from that!
Just thought about this, and saw this topic. Any updates?

Hi,
Try this, select the output properties panel.
Go to the Advanced tab and under Multiresolution change the file name extension from .jpg to .webp.
Now create the output.
This is only part supported so every time you click the generated output it will remap the images again.
So build the tour first and only when you are ready to make the final output, delete the output folder and create one using webp.
Most browsers should support it but IE does not.

I was about to lounge a new topic about exporting to webp not properly working, but then I found this thread. I use this for a few months now, but every time I update the project, all tiles are fully regenerated as mentioned. I get a bit annoyed by this, so I wonder, is a fix part of the roadmap in the near future?
Brilliant, thank you Martin.
I realize I'm behind, You've been doing it for months, Dennis, and I'm just now thinking of it

It is on the list, but as said build your project locally and when you are ready to make the final output use the webp file extension.
At some point, this will be an option in the output.
