I've been doing it professionally for about a year now but have been slowly learning AS for 5+ years, the chance to make a living didn't present soon so learning was very slow to start. Still very slow and I reckon to spend at least twice as long on things than I get paid for. Hey, you may be a quicker learner than me and I had a lot of other things stopping me spending the time on it
I didn't really start to know what I was doing till I got totally immersed all day every day, It was kind of sink or swim. it's been a pretty frustrating journey without a mentor to steer me round all the pitfalls and help when things just don't work. I signed up for a OOP course and which forced me to learn a little bit of java along the way that helped a lot.
