A simple question maybe?

Hello -sorry if this is an obvious question but...
Previously I have saved my projects as Flash files and this used to work great. I could give my files to clients and they were happy storing them on their local machines and watching them in the webbrowser of choice.
Now with it becoming increasingly difficult to watch flash in web browsers I am looking for an alternative. Of course HTML 5 is an option but this requires web server/hosting solutions and I am hoping for something as simple as the previous Flash solution -not requiring any installations on the client side. Something like an .exe file would be excellent.
Perhaps this already exists and I am simply unaware of it?
