In another thread we were talking about different types of Cardboard panoramas and Stereo (2 offset panoramas). here is link. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11003&p=44875#p44875
Stereo HMD requires two (2) panoramas taken with a Stereo dual side by side camera or two cameras with 180° lens off set. So I thought about the Theta - S mounted on a monopod. Take 1 Theta panorama mounted over the monopod center point of rotation. Not moving the monopod then move the theta say 50mm to side and take a 2nd panorama.
Should work when creating a STEREO view HMD Cardboard project.
Observation: The distance offset may or MAY NOT be proper to achieve the 3D affect. Also I did try to use the same f/stop and shutter speed for both panoramas.
Setup:

Application

Here are the resulting Stereo panoramas. Unzip and try and create a STEREO HMD project. Images are not great.. but you should get a better idea about how to create your own Stereo project. The panoramas file names are 'left.jpg and right.jpg'
UPDATE - Corrected the initial angle of view so both Left and Right overlay near correctly. The second panorama camera position was mounted 180° from initial pano http://360texas.com/images/thetastereo.zip

As I recall.. the previous photographers using 2 fisheye cameras set them very close to each other and had special shutter release wired to both cameras. Also if you find a 3D camera its two lenses are in the same camera body... meaning 1 -2 inches (5 cm).
Hi everbody, I bought a theta s, take some 360 photos and when I watch this in pc i have seen that One of The lenses has worst quality, do yours theta's do the same? A lot of thanks

Hi,
Place the Theta on paper with a grid/lines.
Make sure they are quite thin lines then take a shot.
In the output you will see the the pano and you can tell which side shot which.
The lines in the grid will be more out of focus on one side, may not be be by much.
I had a new Theta S that when I held it and took a shot, you see my hand, one side was in focus and the other not. I sent is back, after a few weeks Ricoh gave me a refund to go purchase another one. Would of been nice to got a replacement but as it was within 14 days they give me refund which takes much longer

Hopki
