"Unexpected Benefit" may be one of my more esoteric Pano2VR tutorials. Prompted by this post viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12605 about reconstructing equirectangular images from tiles, this 3 part tutorial takes you step-by-step through the process of calculating your multi-resolution tile and level sizes to create the perfect set of multi-resolution tiles, that, in a worse case scenario, would allow you to rebuild a missing equirectangular image in high resolution.

Along the way I provide an online calculator to determine optimum tile size for any equirectangular image and tutorials for a Mac based file renaming application and a Mac, Windows, Unix imaging tool to reassemble the tiles.

My thanks to Michael Buster for his essential contribution of the extraction, re-assembly process and the required software that makes it possible.

Part 2: Extracting and renaming the Tiles https://tonyredhead.com/pano2vr/unexpec ... efit-part2

Part 3:Reconstructing the Panorama https://tonyredhead.com/pano2vr/unexpec ... efit-part3

Once again any feedback or comments re the tutorials are appreciated.

cheers,

Tony

Thank you, Tony, it works like a charme!

I am using the free Windows program FastStone Image Viewer for renaming the tiles.

Hi Harald,

Thank you so much for the feedback and the heads up on the FastStone Image Viewer, I'll add that information to the Tutorial. I found this little tutorial on the application https://www.memoriesrenewed.com/2017/09 ... -renaming/

cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony.
In Windows a couple of good programs could be Advanced Renamer and PhotoScape X.

Hi ArkiTonio,

Thanks so much for those, I've added them into the tutorial.

The Photoscape X looks good.

That is some nice info Tony.

I sense necessity having once again been the mother of invention. :)

Hi Tony.
Here's another free renaming program for Windows: Bulk Rename Utility (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php).
