I am quite new to Pano2VR and the Skin Editor puzzles me a bit :)

The default size is 640 x 480 and I notice in the video tutorials it does not change.

However, when I add assets to the canvas they tend to show in different locations when previewed. I have played with the positioning using pixel and percent but I get varying result.

If I am previewing on a HD monitor obviously the aspect ratio is different so should I change the Skin Editor dimensions to match?

Also, If I use the percentage positioning and use 50% for both x and y, the asset places itself off center.

Any tips on understanding the Skin Editor canvas?

Hi DMcNeill,

First off I'd recommend posting Skin questions into the Pano2VR/Object2VR Skins. They can sometimes get a bit lost in this forum :)

You are not alone it can be a little daunting at first but as you work with in the Editor you realise how powerful it can be.

I tend to use a 1,000 x 900 screen as I like the extra real estate to place objects on, so it's really what you feel comfortable using.

Just remember that when you place an asset on the canvas that asset's 0,0 point is the top left corner of the bounding box around it. So if you had an object 200px x 200px and you wanted to place it dead center in a 640 x 480 canvas the object offset would be 220 x 140. This will put the center of the object at 320 x 240, the center of the canvas.

I use layouts in InDesign to calculate the size and positioning of objects on different devices. I have a grid that measures 1,000 x 900 that I add to the skin. I open the project in different devices to see where the skin is in relation to that objects window. Here's a post of a screenshot of an InDesign page that shows the image of an iPhone 6 displaying a 1,000 x 900 grid in a Pano2VR project. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12299&p=50907&hilit=indesign#p50907

Personally I wouldn't

As above, it's due to the objects 0,0 point.
Any tips on understanding the Skin Editor canvas?
  • Do all the video tutorials that involve the skin editor
  • Read all of Hopki's posts that involve questions about skins
  • Download all his sample skins and explore them, that's what I do they are a great asset
