Theta S camera 4 image 'handheld' set. Tall Sailing Ship "Elissa".

She was built in 1877 in Aberdeen, Scotland. She now is maintained by the Texas Seaport Museum in Galveston, Texas. She is the Official Tall Ship of Texas.

We took this while on a short trip to Galveston Texas. Our granddaughter Katy graduated from Texas A&M University campus as a Marine Biologist at Galveston Texas.

If you sail... you will enjoy this. Yes the wind was blowing.

Good Morning Martin and Svendus,

I am still learning about what the Theta S can do and can't do.

As the camera was set for AUTO all the image settings are the same.

People moving, VERY overcast - no sunshine all day. 60°f 15°c, High humidity and light wind.
Cell phone screen glare made it difficult see the screen
Really could not see the cellphone image because it was too small to see enough to make corrections

Photoshop CS6 Image info I found:

Original from camera (not cellphone) Image 5376 x 2688 8bit .jpg
Camera setting: AUTO
Focal length 1.3mm

Shutter speed 1/4000 probably too fast which caused all the images to be far to under exposed.
BUT because they were very underexposed alot of detail was retained.

ISO 100
Lens f 2.0
All images taken hand held (no hand stick, monopod

Post processing
In Adobe Bridge Open with Camera Raw Converter had to:
increase the jpg exposure to +1.45
adjusted all 4 images to remove chromatic aberration in the upper ship mast rigging. Didn't find any CA in deck objects.
found enough white objects in all 4 images to correct white balance
adjusted to bring up the shadows and tone adjusted the white and black pixels
tweaked the sharpening abit to remove the slight image blur.

This is the 4th pano2vr project using the Theta S. 2 for the WWP, 1 personal and this one 'Elissa'.

Before I selected the skin menu... I renamed the image nodes. Then in the skin I selected the menu from the "Built in Components". I dragged the menu from the list into the skin. After testing I found that all the image node names pre-filled the menu items (complete with their own actions).
Martin and the Gnome team: Thank you for that work saving skin element.

MULTI RES for Theta images
The image size output from the Theta is 5376 pixels wide.
I found these multi res level settings to eliminate the partial images

Level tile 336
Level 1 1344
Level 2 672
Level 3 336

336 divided into 1344 / 672 / 336 results in a whole number. Example 1344/336 = even whole number 4. 672/336 = 2 and 336/336 = 1.
The results are that after you build your project the tiles are full formed and there are no stray partial filler sized tiles. Less tiles and smaller project size.

Try to do NEXT TIME
Better effort to make camera adjustments viewing the cellphone screen
Use a small 12 inch (30cm) hand stick to keep my fingers out of the image nadir area.

Thanks for asking. I think workflow information exchange will raise the knowledge base. This forum is a good place to share information.

Just trying to learn the camera features.

Theta Issue - can't see live view to set camera shutter speed, ISO etc settings
Currently live view displays a small band across top of smartphone screen.

Full Screen Solution:
Assumes theta wifi is connect to smart phone and you have started the Theta App

Tap the Theta icon bottom center screen.
Tap the menu (3 lines) icon upper right
Select the Full screen item top right
tap the smartphone BACK button

Now panorama is displayed full screen.
to navigate to the 'settings' screen tap the UP arrow bottom right screen
I have my camera adjustments set for MANUAL

and now you can watch the full screen to change shutter speed, ISO and white balance.

Hope this helps
Dave
