Would it be possible to add support for stereo panorama videos? I have a video in 4000 x 4000 or 8000 x 8000 with the left (top) and right eye (bottom). I assume this ends up in serious performance issues because a video can't be tiled in the same way as the stills.

It is possible but you are at the mercy of the browsers.
A test with mono video with a resolution of 3840 x 1920px, Chrome and Safari were good, as you click and drag very responsive.
Opened in Firefox, it played ok, but click and drag was very laggy.
My test stereo video is 1920 x 1920px which plays ok on most devices, not sure how far you can push up the resolution before you start getting into trouble.
As said, it is down to the browser
Maybe look at VRTourviewer and see what they support as its a native VR app it may be better, see: https://www.vrtourviewer.com

You could try at 3840 x 3840 as the desktop browser technically only plays the left 360 video.
With regards to the headset I guess you have to target the lowest denominator or if you know which headset will be used target its capability.
