I'm finding all this a little confusing... I understand the iPad/iPhone thing as in what Hopki posted below, but there are so many other devices out there. Currently I do the same as below for iDevices but just output a standard flash image without multiresolution. Is it best to use the following posted by Hopki earlier in this thread:

Flash output, multiresolution: Levels 1500, 750, 375.
Level tile size 375. (this divides equaliy in all the levels)

I've just produced an image which automatically came up with levels 2657, 1328, 664 and I added another level which came up with 332. Is this ok, or would the above levels be more suitable? You can view this image here - http://www.peterstephens.co.uk/virtual_ ... tairs.html

What is the best practice at the moment for outputting images to cover all devices and computers? I'm thinking I should start producing flash images with multiresolution.

Hopki wrote:HTML5 Output:
After much playing and until something better comes along this is where I have got too.

HTML5 output.
In the settings tab use 1440 cube face size.
I have found this displays nicely on computers and the iPad third generation.

In the mobile tab add:
Max Screen Size = 1024, Cube Face Size = 1024 at image quality 80.
Max Screen Size = 960, Cube Face Size = 700 at image quality 80.
Max Screen Size = 480, Cube Face Size = 416 at image quality 80.

The only drawback is that the second generation iPad will only get to display 1024 cube faces however it can display 1440 with ease.
The thing is the first and second generation both shire the same screen resolution of 1024, but the first generation iPad will crash out at 1440 due to far less memory.
In time you can then remove the 1024 setting and forget about the first generation iPad, but not quite yet as there are still plenty out there.

Found this information on the web:

The first generation iPad took 28 days to reach 1 million units sold.
1 million iPad 2′s were sold on launch weekend last year.
3 million of the third generation iPads were sold over the launch weekend this year.

Hope you find this useful.

Hi Pete,
I use the HTML5 settings as in the main they work well, however at some point will revisit the settings as more and more Android devices move over to HTML5.

For Flash I like to use Multi-Resolution and use levels with resolutions as low as 350 to 400px depending on the input image size.
I embed the lowest resolution in the SWF, but really you don't have to as the preview will also be in the SWF.

The upside is the optimal image size is displayed and when zooming better tiles can be loaded.
Downside is you will need more server space to load the different levels.

These are settings I like to use, others will probably use different.
Of course this will also work well with Flash enabled devices with small screens.

Hopki

Hello Texas

I went carefully thru the discussion. It is clear there are a lot of devices everyone with its own best setting. Nevertheless, it it possible to have a "general" setting in order to allow a reasonable response?
Something like an update to what it was proposed initially end 2011 ago by Hopki as follows.

This sounds like a lot of work with all this redirecting...
To simplify it a bit more you could just have one HTML page and have that serve up the best output for the device viewing.

Example.
Input Image 6000 x 3000px but you can use any size even giga pix.

Flash output, multiresolution: Levels 1500, 750, 375.
Level tile size 375. (this divides equaliy in all the levels)
Do not produce an HTML page.

HTML5 output, settings tab, 1500,
Mobile settings,
Max: 1024, Tile: 1440 80% iPad 1&2 (possible since IOS5)
Max: 960, Tile: 700 80% iPhone 4
Max: 480, Tile: 416 70% iPhone 3

Produce an HTML page from the HTML5 output and add the SWF from the Flash output to the Flash fullback input text box.
And that should be that.

Android devices with small screens using flash will get smaller tiles and quicker downloads over the mobile network. Computers with larger screens will get better quality and with the HTML5 output all the iDevices are also sorted, job done.

Hi:
Before I start "trying" to do all that for all mobile devices.
My room:
http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/uvp/UA/Vill ... /hallN.htm
Works OK on PC and iPad but on my Acer Aspire (1024x600) the jpg which come up when I click the hotspot are cropped top and bottom.
Will these various solutions fix that - or do I need to do something in the skin?
Thanks
Peter

Hi. Can someone settle the cube face / pi thing for me.

Somewhere along the line I'm getting confused as help states ideal cube face is pano width/4 i.e. 6000/4 = 1500, however other help in the forum etc. says 6000/pi = 1910.

Not to sure if the logic in the program changed along the route and just wanted to know the latest take on it.

Thanks in advance

Pi is always the same.
Simple math: 6000/3.1415=1909.9146xxx (rounded 1910px)

If you are reading the suggested "optimal" px recommendation it is based on the chosen window size and not relevant unless you are keeping the window fixed size and disabling zoom.

Sorry if I'm putting this question in the wrong place:

I am completely unable to view my panoramas created with Pano2vr on any of my Android devices. One machine gives me an empty screen and an error message saying "no program can open this swf file" . Another says "download Adobe Flash" then The Google Play Store says "this is not available". Would it be possible for a future version of the program to automatically generate Android-compatible Flash panoramas? Or am I dreaming?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP ON THIS!

I don't know, I can only guess what is going on.

When testing in steps (960-1100-1300-1500-1700-1900) I found out that the image quality slowly improves with each larger tilesize, this improvement suddenly stopped with 1500 px. After some more testing I found the sweet spot at 1440px.

It turns out that from 960px to 1440px the quality improves a bit with larger sizes, then it falls down at the lowest quality level at 1472 px and from there it improves again very slowly up to 1900+ (I stopped testing at 1900 px).

Information we will need to know - device manufacturer and model name - device screen size. Your tested SCREEN and Cubicface/tile pixel values.

It was learned 23Nov12 that Windows 8 IE 10 does support HTML5/CSS3. Windows 8 uses 'TOUCH' on the START but once viewing a Panorama.. looses Touch ability.

Thanks in advanced for your help

I was looking for a list of mobile and tablet devices on which the VT created with pano2VR work without problems and saw this thread...I want to offer this list to my customers...It doesn't and cannot cover all devices as there are always new models coming out but I want to give the customers a general idea...Do you or anybody else know of other devices? Thank you very much for sharing this great input with us...
Best regards

Thanks for the comment. The purpose of this list is to identify devices and their screen pixel sizes only. Once you know the average screen sizes then you can use those dimensions to generate Pano2vr html5 mobile outputs cube face tile sizes .

Because the device is on the list does NOT mean that html5/Flash outputs can be viewed on that device.

ACTUALLY, the devices operating system AND internal web browser and plug-in's depends on if it can be viewed on that device.
